Founded in Alsace in 1809, Mathis has grown from a family sawmill into an international player in timber construction. Across generations, the same principles have guided our development: technical precision, the gradual and steady industrialization of our processes, and the ability to adapt to evolving standards and technologies. This long-term trajectory has shaped the strength of our organization today and positions us to deliver large-scale projects with rigor and consistency.

Start of general contracting operations

Launch of an electric sawmill
1929

Wood drying and planing operations
1956

Addition of glue-laminated timber construction activity
1984

Start of export operations: first Europe, then the rest of the world (North America, Africa, China, Gulf countries...)
1993

Mathis commissions the world’s first 5-axis machining robot for large wooden arches and doors
2005

Start of the production of prefabricated wooden walls, floors, and roofs, as well as metal assembly components. In parallel, a continuous improvement policy was implemented, based on the most modern management techniques (LEAN, 5S, etc.).
2016

Frank Mathis is appointed Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor in recognition of his leadership and commitment to both the French National Plan for the Wood Industry and the association ADIVbois for the development of timber-constructed residential buildings.
2020

Mathis signs its first contracts for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: the Athletes’ Village (Block D), the Ephemeral Grand Palais, the Olympic Pool, and the Adidas Arena - a total of 13 projects.
2023

Visit from the President of the French Republic to discover Mathis’s extensive investments in robotics and engineering.

Accountable environmental performance

For more than twenty years, life cycle assessment, the French HQE (High Environmental Quality) framework, and multiple certifications have been embedded in our projects. Each component is engineered to minimize material and energy waste.
Our industrial processes incorporate the recovery of offcuts, biomass energy production, and continuous monitoring of consumption. Environmental performance is grounded in technical decisions that are measurable and accountable.

A controlled industrial organization

All our structures are designed and manufactured on the Franco-German border using certified timber from sustainably managed forests. This centralized model ensures consistent quality, reliable delivery timelines, and direct control over our industrial processes. It also reduces transport distances and streamlines coordination.
